Overview
Since the beginning of photography, images have been combined with words to form meaning in various contexts. For this exercise, you will combine two forms of expression–writing and photography–to provide a meaningful document suitable for publishing.
Instructions
For this assignment, you will combine a photograph and text to create a magazine cover.
- Do a search online and look at a variety of magazine covers.
- Pick several covers that appeal to you.
- Get ideas from the covers you like and create your own.
- Pay close attention to typography and layout.
- The magazine cover image must in some way involve the town square in Columbia, Ky.
- The name of the magazine must be one of the following:
- Downtown
- Downtown!
- Downtown Magazine
- Downtown Columbia
- Columbia Downtown
- Experience Downtown
- The magazine cover should have the following four “story teasers” on the cover:
- Cafe on the Square opens doors to community
- Burton celebrates 30 years on Square
- Fountain designer looks back to
- Town Barber Shop a cut above the rest
- The size of the magazine will be 8.5 x 11 inches.
- The magazine should have a vertical orientation.
- The magazine cover must be composed and assembled with Adobe PhotoShop and Adobe InDesign.
- The finished magazine cover will be submitted in PDF format.
